Silivanovič, Nikadzim

Portrait painter.

Was born in the family of peasants. Received general education in the country five-grade school for the nobles in Maladzečna. In 1859 entered the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg where he specialized in portrait painting. Four years later Silivanovič received the title of a free artist and returned to his native village. Started to work in church painting. After studying in Academy in the class of mosaic (1870) received the title of class artist of the 2nd degree and then of the 1st degree. Talented artist was noticed by K. Brullov who offered him to take part in creating the ‘Last Supper’ mosaic for the main iconostasis of Saint Isaac’s Cathedral in Petersburg. For this work N. Silivanovič was awarded the title of academician in 1877 and assigned a senior mosaic artist.

His free days the artist used for travelling around Belarus; he brought rich material for the household compositions.
